Pressure Relief Valves - Pilot operated

Pressure relief valves are designed to remain closed until the system pressure reaches the pressure set point of the pressure relief valve, at which point the valve will automatically quickly open releasing excess system pressure downstream thus protecting all upstream equipment from dangerous, damaging and hazardous system over pressures.

After system pressures have dropped back down under safe pre-set pressure limits, the pressure relief valve slowly closes to prevent system shock loaded back pressure spikes and remains closed ready to protect the system once again. The unique patented cylindrical piston BFL pilot operated pressure relief valve design offers exceptionally high flow with compact body. BFL design common across the range of pilot operated piston valves, including BFE electric solenoid valve, BFR pressure reducing valve, BFS pressure sustaining valve ranges as each external pilot control unit can be quickly installed or removed for easy and safe transport, handling, installation and maintenance.

Pressure relief valves ( pilot operated )are available in a wide range of materials from Bronze, Epoxy coated ductile iron, 304 or 316 stainless steel from flange DN50, DN65, DN80, DN100, DN125, DN150, DN200, DN250, DN300, DN350, DN400, DN450 and even DN500 and beyond with a range of adjustable pressure relief settings from 0.2 to 4 bar, 2 to 8 bar or 5 to 13 bar with other pressure options readily available as it is only the external pilot controller that requires changing.

It is very important that the correct pressure range is chosen according to system pressure requirements, the required pressure must be between the minimum and maximum pressure relief valve settings. These pressure settings must not be outside of the pressure relief valve minimum or maximum pressure ranges and it is wise to avoid reaching valve pressure limitations. For example if aa 8 bar pressure relief valve is required to protect a water processing system, choosing a 5 to 13 bar rated valve is far more prudent than choosing a 2 to 8 bar pressure relief valve as this would be a the maximum limit of the valve.

Most pressure relief valves are designed to work with clean water, however as pressure relief valves are manufactured in different materials of construction to suit different application requirements choosing different sealing materials means that other liquids can also be used as long as these have been approved by the pressure relief manufacturers.
