Pilot operated pressure sustaining valves are designed to automatically maintain a constant pre-set back pressure, regardless of downstream (outlet) flow or pressure demand changes. Many water process or cooling systems are critically dependent on a reliable source of water pressure, but sudden peeks in demand from other upstream or downstream systems are liable to exceed pump output capabilities and thus critical system pressures can fall below safe minimum limits.
By installing a pressure sustaining valve at all non critical system outlets the valve will monitor the back pressure and if the upstream or back pressure drops close to the minimum pressure setting the pressure sustaining valve will reduce its current flow to help maintain the required back pressure. Any non critical downstream applications from the pressure sustaining valve will see reduced flow during these peek demand times, so by sacrificing supply to these areas the system can help maintain its minimum back pressure setting. It is wise to fit pressure sustaining valves to all non critical systems as only these will potentially will see reduced flow during peek demand such as sinks, non emergency wash down systems, showers, water tank top up systems etc, and if demand is regularly exceeding supply then it recommended to analyse system supply and demand strategy to avoid problems later and especially if new equipment is added to what could already be an over stretched water demand and supply system.
The BFS external pilot pressure sustaining valve has a unique Patented compact high flow cylindrical body and robust internal piston offering exceptionally high flow size for size and a compact cylindrical valve body common across the range of pilot operated pressure sustaining, reducing and pilot float valves, without fragile external copper pipework or complicated external pipework controllers. Each pressure sustaining pilot control unit is mounted externally of the main cylindrical valve body and can be quickly installed or removed for easy and safe transport, handling, installation and maintenance and can be replaced to perform different pressure control functions or pressure settings. Unlike most diaphragm operated pressure control valves, the BFS series internal cast bronze or stainless steel piston will not crack, peel or split due to harsh conditions, use or particle debris within the system media as sealing is limited to strong robust external U ring sealing as found in high pressure hydraulic systems.
